Below is a recent press release from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger.
Once again our community is experiencing a rash of thefts from motor vehicles. The thefts are taking place during the hours of darkness, and the targets are exclusively unlocked motor vehicles. One of the thefts that was reported to our agency this morning was that of a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun that was left in an unlocked vehicle. The handgun is described as a Springfield model XD, .45 caliber, black in color. The theft occurred on today’s date, sometime after 4:00am.
We are encouraging all people to secure their vehicles when unattended, and ask that you do not leave anything of value in them. This is purely a crime of opportunity, and one that is easily prevented by simply locking your vehicles.
We are asking that people in the community report any suspicious individuals or activity. What may seem minor at the time, could be very important information in our investigations.
Individuals that come forward with information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for this crime are eligible for a cash reward through Janesville Area Crimestoppers. Individuals with tips can remain anonymous. If you have information regarding this incident please contact the Milton Police Department at 757-2244 or Janesville Area Crimestoppers at 756-3636. Anonymous tips can also be sent via text to CRIMES (274637), then enter JACS, plus your message.

Press Release - Online Anonymous Bullying Reporting
Below is a recent press release from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger regarding a new, anonymous, online Bully Alert Form.
Our agency is proud to announce that we have launched a link on our website which allows for anonymous reporting of bullying incidents that take place in our community. This new tool is the result of our partnership with the Milton Youth Coalition and their focus this fall on an anti-bullying campaign.
Last school year we detected a noticeable rise in the number of bullying incidents that were being alleged in our community, and the severity of some of them. While some of the incidents were taking place on school grounds, many were also reported elsewhere in the community. In response to that, the Milton Youth Coalition determined it would be their focus this fall to implement an anti-bullying program in the community. As previously released, there will be an upcoming community picnic to focus on the topic, and kick-off the programming. That will be held on September 7th at Northside Intermediate School, and more details will follow.
We feel this anonymous reporting tool is important, as sometimes victims and witnesses are hesitant to report incidents, as they fear retaliation. This link will allow those using it to report the events directly to the police department, and we will take appropriate actions based upon the information provided.
The Bully Alert link can be found at www.ci.milton.wi.us , and then click on the police department home page.

Update - STH 26 Bypass Project
Below is an update on the State Highway 26 bypass from the Project Manager. As the city receives information on the project, it will be posted on this blog and on the website (www.ci.milton.wi.us).
Good afternoon,
Progress continues to move forward on the reconstruction of State Highway 26 between Janesville and Milton. Long hours and good weather have helped to keep the project on schedule. Following the completion of the new northbound left turn lanes to McCormick Drive west, the temporary barrier wall has been recently removed. Now that the barrier wall is gone, this will allow crews to set up a left turn lane from the northbound lanes of State Highway 26 to McCormick Drive. The left turn lane will be in place by this Friday. Please stop and yield to all oncoming southbound traffic. Work is also nearing completion at the County Highway Y and McCormick intersection. The final layer of asphalt and permanent pavement markings should be in place within the next couple of weeks.
On the southern end of the project you will notice the start of the construction of the pedestrian bridge, just south of the M&I Bank. Over the next few weeks, crews will work to complete the new median between the northbound and southbound lanes in the business district between County Highway Y and McCormick Drive.
To the north, the roundabouts on Harmony Town Hall are taking shape. The first sidewalk was poured on the Harmony Town Hall Bridge. The Harmony Town Hall interchange is on schedule to open October 1st. The Wright Road Bridge is right behind the Harmony Town Hall Bridge and crews will be pouring the bridge deck this Friday. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we strive to keep the construction site safe for workers and the traveling public. If you have any questions or need any clarifications on the upcoming changes, please feel free to contact the State Highway 26 project staff at our project field office.
(608)754-8217 - STH 26 Field Office, 4342 Milton Avenue, Janesville, WI 53546
Sincerely,
Lance Wagner - Project Manager

Annual Chicken BBQ and Arts & Crafts Fair - August 19, 2012
Below is a press release from the Milton Area Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism (MACCIT) about the upcoming Chicken BBQ at North Goodrich Park and the Arts and Crafts Fair at the Milton House.
On Sunday, August 19th, Milton will host the annual Arts and Crafts Fair and the Air Products/DeDenter Auto Shop Chicken BBQ on the grounds of the historic Milton House Museum and neighboring North Goodrich Park. The Milton Historical Society and Milton Area Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (MACCIT) co-host this event.
Starting at 11 a.m., the Air Products/DeDenter Auto Shop Chicken BBQ begins in North Goodrich Park. Visitors can stop by and enjoy a chicken meal, hot dogs or brats. Chicken will be served until it’s gone, so get there early!
The Milton Community Fund is hosting a Concert in the Park during the festivities. Joe Roberts & Band will perform from 11am-1pm that day. A variety of other booths and activities will take place in the park during the day. The rain date for the Chicken BBQ and Concert in the Park is the following Sunday, August 26th in North Goodrich Park.
Once again, the Milton Historical Society Arts and Crafts fair will be juried, in which vendors are required to provide photographs of raw materials and themselves working their product, as well as examples of their work. This is done to ensure vendors are selling a product which they have created. Artists and crafters will be on hand selling their unique creations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds surrounding the Milton House. Tours of this historic site will also be given at reduced rates. The Arts & Craft Fair is being held rain or shine.
Also, this year MACCIT will be hosting a 50/50 raffle. Presale tickets are available at a variety of locations throughout Milton including the banks, Piggly Wiggly, Dave’s Ace Hardware and Junction Pub. The winner will be announced at 2:00pm. All proceeds go to MACCIT and assist with Milton Tourism & Economic Development. “When purchasing a MACCIT raffle ticket you are making an investment in your own local community. All proceeds from the raffle benefit Milton through economic development and tourism efforts.” says Terry Williamson, MACCIT’s Tourism and Events Committee Chair.
The MACCIT Chicken BBQ and the Milton Historical Society Arts and Crafts on the Lawn is a Milton "hometown" tradition that continues to draw more area citizens as well as surrounding neighbors each year. Young and old are able to enjoy a day in Milton filled with shopping, food and fun.
If you are interested in volunteering at the event, contact MACCIT at 608-868-6222 or email us at info@maccit.com.
