Memorial Day Event Planned at Milton Area Veterans Memorial

The Parks & Recreation Commission is planning a ceremony for Memorial Day, May 30, 2016 to unveil the POW / MIA monument.  The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by a Silent March to Milton Junction Cemetery at approximately 8:50 a.m.

The Parks & Recreation Commission is still selling bricks for the Milton Area Veterans Memorial.  Another placement will take place prior to the official dedication of the POW / MIA monument and the Cost of Freedom expansion on July 3, 2016.

The prices for the memorial bricks are as follows:

  • 8x8 Brick - $85
  • 16x8 Brick - $135
  • 16x16 Brick - $235

Registration Forms for 2016 4th of July Parade Available Now and Parade Marshal Nominations Open

Registration forms to participate in the 2016 4th of July Parade are now available at Milton City Hall, 710 S. Janesville Street, and on the City of Milton website (www.milton-wi.gov/ParadeRegistration).  The 4th of July Parade will take place on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 1 p.m.

The 2016 parade theme is “Moments in Time.”  First, Second, and Third Place awards will be presented to parade participants for “Best Use of Theme.”

In an effort to assist with planning for the event, participants are asked to submit completed applications to City Hall by noon on June 24, 2016.  In the interest of animal safety and to comply with requirements from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, parade entries with horses will be required to show documentation of the current Coggins test during parade line up on July 4th in order to participate in the parade. All motorized vehicles must be driven by a licensed driver.  

The City of Milton is also accepting nominations for Parade Marshal through May 13, 2016 at noon.  Nominations can be submitted through the City’s website (www.milton-wi.gov/ParadeMarshalNomination) or directly to Assistant to the City Administrator Inga Cushman at City Hall, 710 S. Janesville Street, or by email at icushman@milton-wi.gov.

Community Recognition Picnic – May 26, 2016

The City of Milton will host the 3rd Annual Community Recognition Picnic on May 26, 2016.  This event will serve to recognize citizens and city employees that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the Milton community through their actions in 2015.  The event is also a chance to recognize the many volunteers the City has serving on the various committees and commissions.

The Community Recognition Picnic will be held at the Milton Community House, 20 Parkview Drive.  The City of Milton will provide BBQ pork sandwiches, BBQ Boneless wings, soda, and water.  Community members are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to pass.

The picnic will start at 5 p.m. and the program will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The City is seeking nominations for Community Awards.  These awards will be given to any citizen, city employee, non-profit organization, or business that has shown an exemplary commitment to the community by way of time, resources, or extraordinary commitment to the betterment of Milton.  Please submit nominations by May 11, 2016 through the City’s website (www.milton-wi.gov/CommunityAwardNomination) or directly to City Administrator Al Hulick at City Hall, 710 S. City of Milton Community Garden

The City of Milton Community Garden has 20 feet by 25 feet (500 square feet) plots available for residents to use after obtaining a $10 permit from the Department of Public Works. The Community Garden is located in the rear or west end of the Milton Cemetery off Janesville Street. The garden opens on May 1st of every year.

The Community Garden Rules, Regulations, and Permit Application are available on the City’s website (www.milton-wi.gov/DocumentCenter/View/77), at City Hall (710 S. Janesville Street), and the Public Works Facility (150 Northside Drive).

Reminder: Two Statewide Tornado Drills Thursday
Drills part of Wisconsin's Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week

(MADISON) – Wisconsin Emergency Management reminds you that two statewide tornado drills are scheduled for this Thursday, April 14, 2016. The drills are part of the annual spring severe weather campaign to encourage people in Wisconsin to get ready for possible tornadoes and severe weather.

For the first time, a mock tornado warning will be issued at 6:55 p.m. to give families and businesses a chance to test their emergency severe weather plans. Earlier in the day, a mock tornado watch will be issued at 1:00 p.m. and a mock tornado warning will be issued at 1:45 p.m. Many radio and TV stations across the state will issue the test tornado warnings. In addition, mock alerts will be issued on NOAA Weather Radios and many communities will sound their tornado sirens.

Any changes to the scheduled drills will be issued to local media as well as posted on the ReadyWisconsin website at http://readywisconsin.wi.gov. Updates will also be posted on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ReadyWisconsin), Twitter (www.twitter.com/ReadyWisconsin) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/ReadyWisconsin).

Annual Cemetery Clean Up - April 18, 2016

The Annual Cemetery Clean Up is scheduled for April 18, 2016 (weather permitting). During this time, Public Works employees will remove old flowers, wreaths, and other items from the cemetery. New items should be not placed during this time.
