Press Release - Update on Ethanol Tanker Truck and Trailer that Overturned in Milton

Below is a press release from today, November 27, 2012 from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger.

As the tanker truck is still draining, and not yet empty, officials on the scene have made the determination that STH 59, East of Milton, will remained closed throughout the evening. Responders will again assess the situation tomorrow morning and decide how to proceed with getting the vehicle upright and the scene cleared. Again, STH 59 remains closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Currently Accepting Ice Skate Donations

The City of Milton will re-open the Central Park outdoor ice rink in 2012. In October of 2012, the Mayor and Common Council approved the project work necessary to re-open the rink. Due in large part to a generous donation from Air Products, a new clay liner was installed this fall, which will allow the rink to retain water and the rink to be re-opened. In recognition of their generous donation, the Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended that the rink be re-named from the current Tomah Ice Rink to Air Products Ice Rink. Weather permitting, the grand re-opening of the rink will be announced in mid-December.

In anticipation of re-opening the rink and the park’s adjacent warming house, the City of Milton is accepting donations of new and used ice skates, to provide families that do not have skates the ability to still use the park. People interested in donating either new or used ice skates can drop them off at Milton Public Library or at Milton City Hall, both located at 430 E. High Street.

If you have questions about donating ice skates or the grand re-opening of the ice skating rink please contact City Administrator Jerry Schuetz at (608) 868-6900 ext. 4 or via e-mail at jschuetz@ci.milton.wi.us.

Press Release - Update on Ethanol Tanker Truck and Trailer that Overturned in Milton

Below is a press release from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger from today, November 27, 2012.

As a result of this morning’s incident in which a tanker truck filled with ethanol overturned, State Highway 59 East of Milton remains closed. The roadway is expected to be closed well into the evening.

Officials on scene have determined the safest course of action is to allow the ethanol to leak out naturally, rather than introducing any apparatus that could potentially cause a fire hazard. The ethanol is draining into a retention pond which is adjacent to where the incident took place.

It is estimated there were approximately 8,000 gallons of ethanol on board, and it is draining in excess of 10 gallons per minute.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting in the investigation, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is on scene to assist with the environmental impact assessment.

Officials monitoring the air quality have determined that those people earlier evacuated from businesses and residences can return, however, they should shelter in place.

There is no danger to anybody outside of a 500 ft. radius of the incident site.

Press Release - Adopt-A-Grandparent

Below is a press release from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger about the Adopt-a-Grandparent program.

We are proud to announce our partnership with local Mary Kay consultant, Michelle Klietz, in a Holiday program that can bring joy to some of our community members.

We are adopting the residents at our local assisted living centers and we want to present each of them with a special gift for Christmas. This may be the only gift some of them will receive this holiday.

We are asking people and businesses in the community to help us with this project by adopting a grandparent for Christmas. Your $10.00 will sponsor a special gift package for one resident and help them to have a Merry Christmas. Your name will be attached to the gift basket so they will know who sponsored their special gift.

To donate, please stop in to the Milton Police Department and fill out a pledge card. We will be delivering the packages in person during the holiday season.

Ms. Klietz has generously offered to donate all of her profits to the City of Milton Police Department’s Crime Prevention Fund.

The MACCIT organization recognizes the pending impact to all Milton area businesses as it relates to the Hwy 26 bypass and reconstruction. MACCIT has attempted to keep our membership and the greater community aware of the changes since the project was introduced several years ago. We have done this through a number of channels, including various meetings, networking opportunities, and other communications throughout the evolution of the highway expansion plan.

Looking forward, we will continue to remain informed and aware of the highway reconstruction project as it nears completion in 2013.
