Crossridge Park Playground Community Meeting

http://www.ci.milton.wi.us/DocumentCenter/View/337

Milton is building a playground at Crossridge Park, and the Parks & Recreation Commission needs your help! The Commission will be hosting a community meeting on January 20, 2014 at 6 p.m. in the Parker YMCA Youth Activity Room, 1360 Parkview Drive, to discuss the design and development of the playground and inform the public how they can be involved in the building of the playground.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded the City of Milton a $20,000 Let’s Play City Construction Grant as announced September 9, 2013. The City of Milton received the grant because it was selected as a 2013 Playful City USA community by KaBOOM! on May 7, 2013. The City will use the grant to build a new playground at Crossridge Park near the new Parker YMCA with community involvement using the KaBOOM! Community Build Model, which requires the use of volunteers to construct the playground.

The Parks & Recreation Commission is also requesting that community members submit their ideas for the design of the playground. Press Release from Wisconsin Emergency Management - Winter Storm Watch for Saturday

A winter storm is heading towards Wisconsin this weekend. This one is forecast to hit several southern Wisconsin counties. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Saturday night and Sunday. Snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches are possible. Travel could be difficult especially Sunday morning. Be ready for the storm. Here are a few simple things you can do:

Have an emergency winter weather survival kit in your vehicle. Your kit should include water, snack food such as energy bars or raisins, first aid kit and booster cables. If you have a cell phone make sure you have a power adapter you can plug into the lighter. You can find more tips on our website: http://readywisconsin.wi.gov

Check the roads before you travel. Call 511 or go to www.511wi.gov for the latest road conditions across Wisconsin. You can also go to our website for a regional travel map which covers North and South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin. http://readywisconsin.wi.gov/511/default.asp.

Get supplies for your home. Depending on conditions it may be safer to stay home. Make sure your home emergency kit is stocked with food that can be stored and eaten without electricity. Also, make sure you have extra water, flashlights with extra batteries and medications. For a complete list of kit items go to our website: http://readywisconsin.wi.gov/kit/GetKit.asp.

Be careful removing snow. Heavy, wet snow can plug up snow blowers. Following these steps:
  • Disengage the clutch
  • Wait five seconds after shutting off the machine to allow the blades to stop rotating
  • ALWAYS use a stick or broom handle to loosen impacted snow
  • NEVER put your hand down the exit chute or around any blades. Last year, several people in Wisconsin were injured when removing snow from their snow blower.
Stay informed. ReadyWisconsin will keep you posted on any emergencies that occur during the storm. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/readywisconsin) or Twitter (www.twitter.com/readywisconsin) for updates.

City of Milton Updating Emergency Notification System for Residents/Businesses

http://www.milton-wi.gov/CodeRed
The City of Milton is updating our emergency notification system contacts for residents and businesses, as we transition to a new service provider. The Emergency Communications Network (ECN) has taken over the City’s previous Global Connect system, which is an emergency notification system designed to alert residents of critical incidents in the City of Milton, which makes it a perfect time to register your cell phone, home or business land line, or email to ensure it is in the new system.

The City has had the emergency notification system since 2010, and will now be operating under the name “Code Red." This allows residents and their families to register land line phones, cell phones, and email addresses to be notified of emergencies that are happening throughout the City. The system has already been used to notify residents of water shutoffs, water main breaks, and emergency road closures.

The City encourages all residents and business owners to register for the system. Registration is simple, and can be completed on the City’s website by going to the following link: www.milton-wi.gov/CodeRed.

You can register more than one phone, and registration is free. So that we can keep you informed during a crisis, we encourage you to register your phone today.
