City of Milton to Join Dean Health Care and WISC TV3 in “Act of Kindness Day”

The City of Milton is proud to announce its participation and partnership with Dean Health Care and WISC TV in participating in the Buddy Project’s “Day of Kindness” on June 4, 2014. Mayor Brett J. Frazier will be proclaiming June 4, 2014 as an “Act of Kindness Day” at the City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting on June 3, 2014. The City’s participation is a part of a larger, global effort.

The City of Milton has been a regional leader in our anti-bullying efforts, which is among the reasons our City was selected to participate. A partnership with the School District of Milton facilitated through the City of Milton Police Department created the Milton Youth Coalition, which is a collaborative group of community partners who meets monthly to create awareness about bullying, and create mechanisms to both report it and prevent it. The group’s theme of “Live the Milton Way-Safe in our Schools and Safe in our Community” has signage throughout Milton’s schools and City parks.

Being kind is deeply rooted within our community’s culture. As we head into the summer months, we want to emphasize that being kind to each other costs very little, but provides so much value to so many. Participation in the day of kindness is simple. Make that extra effort to be kind to someone on June 4, 2014.

Examples of things to do include:
  • Kind Acts in the Workplace:
    • Say good morning to someone you don’t normally talk to
    • Hold the door for someone
    • Tell your co-workers you appreciate them
  • Kind Acts in the Classroom:
    • Say hello to someone you don’t normally talk to
    • Study with someone new
    • Tell your teacher you appreciate them and the work they did in teaching you this year
    • Let someone in line go before you
    • Remember to say “please and thank you” to those you interact with
  • Kind Acts in the Community:
    • Let someone use a piece of park equipment before you
    • Tell someone “good job” for something that they did, be it on a field of play, or some great service you receive at a local business.
Mayor Brett Frazier was quoted as saying that “Participating in the Act of Kindness Day on June 4th celebrates Milton’s community culture of being kind to each other, and illustrates nicely what is so very special about our great City as we promote inclusivity and kindness each and every day”.

For more information on ways on the City’s participation in the Act of Kindness Day, please contact City Administrator Jerry Schuetz at 608-868-6900 or via e-mail at jschuetz@milton-wi.gov.

Below is a press release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office regarding the monthly testing of the Outdoor Warning System.

Sheriff Spoden wants to remind citizens that Rock County tests the Outdoor Warning System sirens on a monthly basis from April through October every year. The sirens are tested at 12:05 pm on the first Wednesday of the month unless Rock County is threatened with inclement weather at the time. In the event that there is a chance of inclement weather, siren testing will be postponed until 12:05 pm on the second Wednesday of the month.

The Rock County Outdoor Warning System will conduct monthly siren tests on June 4th, 2014 at 12:05 pm. The test signal will be 1 -2 minutes in duration. Please tune in to your local radio stations or weather radios for all weather related information and instructions when the sirens are sounded.

Test Signal vs. Tornado Warning

• Test Signal: Steady tone lasting 1 – 2 minutes
• Tornado Warning: Steady tone lasting 3 – 5 minutes

In the event of a tornado warning, the sirens will alert steadily for three to five minutes. This lengthy alert tone will indicate that citizens should immediately take shelter and tune in to local broadcasting stations or weather radios for further information.

City of Milton Agendas - Week of May 19th

Meetings for the Week of May 19th are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

City of Milton Changing Traffic Control at E. High Street and Janesville Street

At their last regularly scheduled meeting, the City of Milton Common Council approved a change in traffic signage and control at the intersection of E. High Street and Janesville Street. As recommended by a comprehensive traffic study conducted by the City’s engineering firm Baxter and Woodman late last year, the Council approved the study’s recommendation to have the traffic lights currently at the intersection removed and replace them with two stop signs that regulate east and west bound traffic onto Janesville Street from E. High Street.

In an effort to help drivers slowly acclimate to the change, effective May 12, 2014 the traffic lights at that intersection were switched to flashing red on E. High Street, which requires a stop, and flashing yellow on Janesville Street, which requires vehicles to proceed through the intersection with caution. The traffic lights will be removed completely and replaced with the stop signs on E. High Street by June 5, 2014.

The Council’s decision to remove the traffic lights are a part of several of the traffic study’s recommended action steps that will be evaluated in the upcoming months as Mayor Brett Frazier and the Common Council remain committed to mitigate the impact of the Highway 26 bypass on existing businesses, maximize the potential of the new Highway 26/Highway 59 corridor and ensure the safe, free-flow of vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic throughout the City of Milton.
