Update on Road Construction on Janesville Street and High Street - September 29th

Below is an update on the road construction taking place on Janesville Street and High Street.


Good Morning,

Please see below for a summary of upcoming construction activities that will be occurring on Janesville Street / Milton Road / BUS. 26 - (E. Madison Ave and CTH N) and High Street / Old STH 59 - (Janesville St. - STH 59) in Rock County. The summary of activities is preliminary and may change based on weather and other site conditions. 

The schedule for the week of September 29th includes:
  • Janesville Street/Milton Road is Closed To Through Traffic, Local Access Only. Please use alternates routes if at all possible. 
  • The Otter Creek bridge is closed as of 9/2/14, and will remain closed until the bridge work is completed. 
  • Continued work on the Otter Creek bridge deck replacement. 
  • Concrete removals and concrete repair/replacement will occur on the northbound lane of Janesville St./Milton Rd. from Otter Creek Bridge to Klug Road. Expect lane closures and significant construction traffic. 
  • Full pavement removal/replacement to occur on Janesville St. from E. Madison Ave. to Hudson Street. Expect single lane access and significant construction traffic. Delays can be expected as the removal and replacement occur. Please use alternate routes if at all possible. 
  • Please anticipate construction traffic on High street portion of the project in preparation for curb and gutter removal/replacement.

Historic Walking Tour Scheduled for October 5th at 1 p.m.

The next Historic Walking Tour will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 1 p.m., and the focus will be the Merchant Row Downtown District. The tour will start at Milton Family Restaurant, 541 Vernal Avenue. During the tour, the tour guide will focus on the early years of the Merchant Row Downtown District.

The final walking tour of 2014 will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Milton Junction Cemetery.

The Historic Walking Tours are organized by the City of Milton's Historic Preservation Commission and the Milton Historical Society.

Voting by Absentee Ballot

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered in order to receive an absentee ballot. Proof of identification must be provided before an absentee ballot may be issued.

You must make a request for an absentee ballot in writing.

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the primary or election or both. You may also submit a written request in the form of a letter. Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature. You may make application for an absentee ballot by mail or in person.

Making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is:
5:00 p.m. on the fifth day before the election, Thursday, October 30th, 2014.

Note: Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact the municipal clerk regarding deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.

Voting an absentee ballot in person

You may also request and vote an absentee ballot in the clerk's office or other specified location during the days and hours specified for casting an absentee ballot in person.

No in-person absentee voting may occur on a weekend or legal holiday.

The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the proper polling place or counting location before the polls close on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Any ballots received after the polls close will be counted by the board of canvassers if postmarked by Election Day and received no later than 4:00 p.m. on the Friday following the election.

Fire Hydrant Flushing Notice

Beginning September 15, 2014 through October 10, 2014, Milton Water Utility will flush all fire hydrants in the City of Milton to make sure they are in good working order and to help flush sediment out of the distribution system.

If you notice flushing in your area, you may see discoloration in your faucet water.  Let it run for a few minutes, preferably from your outside hose connection, and it will clear up. The water is safe to drink. You may not want to do laundry on the day hydrants are flushed in your area.

Job Posting - City Clerk / Deputy Treasurer

The City of Milton (pop. 5,546) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of City Clerk / Deputy Treasurer

The position requires strong knowledge of payroll, election procedures, governmental accounting, records management, tax billing and collection, and record keeping of proceedings. 

 Desired qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, accounting, or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience. 

 Salary range for the position is $50,000 to $60,000 DOQ, with excellent benefits that includes participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

  • Erosion control will be installed throughout the project. 
  • Concrete removals and concrete repair/replacement are scheduled to begin. 
  • Please anticipate construction traffic over a majority of the project as pavement removals are marked, and contractors begin mobilizing equipment into the project limits.

  • The Otter Creek bridge has been closed as of 9/2/14, and will remain closed until the bridge work is completed. Bridge work will begin with the removal of the existing bridge deck. 
  • Please anticipate construction traffic and workers over the majority of the project as pavement removals are marked and contractors begin mobilizing equipment into the project limits. 
  • Erosion control will be installed around throughout the project.
