On Tuesday, February 12, 2014 the City of
Milton Water Utility recommended residents run a small, pencil sized
stream of water in their homes to prevent frozen laterals (pipes) to
their homes or businesses. That recommendation remains in effect through March 31, 2014.
Despite the warmer weather above ground, deep frost from extremely
cold temperatures experienced this winter poses a potential risk to the
City’s utility mains and water line laterals that bring water to the
City’s utility customers. Water flowing helps keep water temperatures
warmer and limits the risk of pipes and stagnant water within them
freezing. The potential for frozen pipes will not go away until the
ground begins to thaw, which could be another 5-6 weeks.
In an effort to keep the water temperatures warm enough and water flowing to prevent frozen pipes, the City of Milton Water Utility continues to urge residents to run at small, pencil sized stream of water at one faucet in their home or business through March 31, 2014. Pursuant to Public Service Commission rules, a water credit will be established and provided to all customers following our recommendation. City Hall staff will also be sending a post card out to utility customers this week, also urging them to keep their water running through March 31, 2014.
