Press Release - Thefts from Vehicles

Below is a recent press release from Milton Police Lieutenant John Conger.

Once again our community is experiencing a rash of thefts from motor vehicles. The thefts are taking place during the hours of darkness, and the targets are exclusively unlocked motor vehicles. One of the thefts that was reported to our agency this morning was that of a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun that was left in an unlocked vehicle. The handgun is described as a Springfield model XD, .45 caliber, black in color. The theft occurred on today’s date, sometime after 4:00am.

We are encouraging all people to secure their vehicles when unattended, and ask that you do not leave anything of value in them. This is purely a crime of opportunity, and one that is easily prevented by simply locking your vehicles.

We are asking that people in the community report any suspicious individuals or activity. What may seem minor at the time, could be very important information in our investigations.

Individuals that come forward with information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for this crime are eligible for a cash reward through Janesville Area Crimestoppers. Individuals with tips can remain anonymous. If you have information regarding this incident please contact the Milton Police Department at 757-2244 or Janesville Area Crimestoppers at 756-3636. Anonymous tips can also be sent via text to CRIMES (274637), then enter JACS, plus your message.
