100+ Women Support Library Expansion

An exciting buzz is in the air in Milton. The $2.5 million library expansion project has started with a huge show of support from the community.

What began with 15 supporters has grown to over 150 women who have each pledged a $1,000 gift ($200 per year over 5 years) for an expanded and beautiful library that will serve our community for generations to come.

The initiative, called the 100 Women Campaign, was organized to support the new children’s storytime area in the library. This spacious new area will include beautiful seating for children and families to spread out and enjoy quality time together, as well as a creative play space that will engage kids and encourage lifelong learning through different activities designed to promote critical thinking and problem solving.

The 100 Women campaign launches the overall fundraising strategy that includes funding from grants, individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as from the City of Milton. Fundraising is expected to be complete in 2016.

Other highlights of the expansion include a special section just for teens, a large community room for meetings of all sorts, space for tutors to work with students, and a technology lab for public computer access and classes. Another exciting addition will be Spark Lab, a large hands-on workshop offering equipment, supplies, and local experts to guide participants through the creation of original animation, video, science projects, art, and much more.

Additional opportunities for the community to donate will be announced at a later date, but it’s not too late to be a part of the 100 Women Campaign. Here is a link to a wonderful article in the Milton Courier about our 100 Women event last month.
