Gilbert Myers Named 2016 4th of July Parade Marshal

Dr. Gilbert “Gil” Myers has been named the 2016 Parade Marshal for the 4th of July Parade that will take place on July 4, 2016 at 1 p.m.

Gil moved to Milton in 1949 with his wife, Georgianna, from northeastern Ohio.  He ran a veterinary practice on Madison Avenue with his colleague Dr. Hal Deal until building the Rock Veterinary Clinic in the late 1960s.  Gil served on the Milton Junction Village Board and the Police and Fire Commission prior to Milton and Milton Junction merging on April 1, 1967.  He was a member of the Milton Kiwanis and the American Legion, was active in his local church serving on several committees, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.  Gil currently volunteers at The Gathering Place.  Gil is a World War II veteran having served in the European Theater during the war under General George Patton’s Third Army.

Parade Theme and Registration
Registration forms to participate in the parade are available at Milton City Hall, 710 S. Janesville Street, and on the City of Milton website (www.milton-wi.gov/ParadeRegistration).  The 2016 parade theme is “Moments in Time.”  First, Second, and Third Place awards will be presented to parade participants for “Best Use of Theme.”

In an effort to assist with planning for the event, participants are asked to submit completed applications to City Hall by noon on June 24, 2016.  In the interest of animal safety and to comply with requirements from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, parade entries with horses will be required to show documentation of the current Coggins test during parade line up on July 4th in order to participate in the parade. All motorized vehicles must be driven by a licensed driver.
