Press Release - Update from MPD on Schilberg Park Vandalism

Below is a press release from Milton Police Chief Dan Layber regarding the vandalism at Schilberg Park.

On Sunday, November 10, 2013, the City of Milton Police Department was notified that the men’s and women’s bathrooms at the Schilberg Park pavilion had been extensively vandalized by unknown persons. The two sinks in the women’s bathroom were broken in half, a mirror as well as a soap dispenser and a paper towel dispenser were also broken. A large rock was discovered in the women’s bathroom which may have been used to cause the damage. The men’s bathroom also had graffiti in it along with the remnants of a fire in one of the sinks. The damage to the Schilberg park bathrooms is estimated at $1000. The damage occurred sometime between Friday, November 8 and Sunday, November 10, 2013.

The Milton Police Department subsequently received a tip that Cody S. Bauer, 17, of the Town of Milton had caused the damage to the park bathrooms. Witnesses at the scene stated that he caused the damage Friday night, November 8th, 2013. During an interview of Bauer on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, Milton Police received a confession from Bauer in which he admitted to causing the damage by himself, utilizing a large rock from the area near the football fields.

Bauer was arrested and Milton Police will be seeking charges of Criminal Damage to Property from the Rock County District Attorney’s Office. Bauer was given an order to appear in Rock County Intake Court for an initial appearance on December 16, 2013, to face the misdemeanor charge. A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence. A prosecution must prove its allegations at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
