City of Milton Allocates Nonprofit Funding for Youth Programming

The City of Milton Common Council voted at their January 21st meeting to allocate $500 to the Milton Youth Coalition for the development of an anti-bullying application (ap) for electronic devices and $2,000 to the YMCA of Northern Rock County for their youth scholarship program. In late December, Mayor Frazier and fellow Council members stated that despite the tough decisions they have to make each and every budget cycle, that improving the quality of life for youth and families in the City of Milton is of critical importance, and as such, made the funding a priority in their 2014 budget and service plan.

The Milton Youth Coalition will use the City’s funding to develop an anti-bullying ap that is being developed in partnership with the School District of Milton. The intent of the ap is to have it available on smart phones and tablets, and it will be readily available for students to learn about and possibly report bullying in the Milton community. A status report on the project will be provided to the Council once the ap is developed and installed throughout the District’s electronic devices.

The YMCA of Northern Rock County’s youth scholarship program offers financial support for approximately 20 youth who are faced with financial limitations in order attend programs or activities at the YMCA. Quarterly updates on the program and its users will be provided to the Council.
